How to replace
a broken window pane
1. Pull all of the broken glass pieces out of the window, gently remove small glass fragments. Be sure to wear work gloves. 2. Using a putty knife, remove all of the glazing compound from around the sash. 3. Using long nose pliers, pull out any glazing points or staples. . 4. Lightly sand the sash channel where you removed the glazing. 5. With new glazing shape and roll it until it becomes a long thin strip. Place it in the sash for the new window to sit on. 6. Gently place the new window into the sash with the glazing. 7. Using a putty knife carefully push glazing points into the sash so the will hold the window in place. The should be placed 6" to 8" apart.. 8. Roll glazing into a long strip again and put it around the glass making sure to cover the exposed glazing points. 9. Use a putty knife to shape the glazing in a 45 degree angle. Let the glazing harden and you are done. |
